Bangladesh Railway at a Glance
বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে
Bangladesh Railway has been the backbone of the nation's transport since 1862, when the first railway line was laid from Darshana to Jagati during the British era. Today it operates across two zones — Eastern and Western — spanning seven divisions and connecting 43 of Bangladesh's 64 districts.
With a massive ৳333 billion modernization plan underway, the railway is expanding double-track corridors, acquiring 60 new locomotives, procuring 200 passenger coaches, and planning electric train services — transforming rail travel for the next generation.
